Water Temperature:
Throughout the year, the water temperature in Tulamben is between 26°C to 29°C (79°F to 84°F). We recommend snorkelers to use a 3mm short wetsuit to snorkel in these sites comfortably.

Visibility:
One of the highlighted aspects of Tulamben snorkeling is its exceptional visibility. It depends on the site, but generally, the waters boast clear visibility ranging from 10 to 30 meters (32 to 100 feet). This clarity allows snorkelers to witness the vibrant coral reefs, mesmerizing shipwreck, and marine life in detail.
The excellent visibility also makes it an ideal destination for underwater photography enthusiasts, capturing underwater scenery and marine life activiities with ease.

If you’re not a certified diver, and wish to explore the underwater realm, consider taking a Discover Scuba Diving course. DSD is a beginner-level program that allows you to experience diving under the guidance of an instructor and can be used as a credit if you wish to continue take an Open Water Diving Course later on.

Tulamben Snorkeling: USAT Liberty Shipwreck

Arguably one of the most famous sites in the world, the USAT Liberty Shipwreck is also listed among the world’s Top 10 wreck dive sites. It lies close to the shore, starting from 5 m depth and is accessible from the beach, which also makes it a perfect site for snorkelers to explore.

The wreck stretches over 120 meters (394 feet) and is covered in an abundance of colourful corals, sponges, and sea fans. What was once a cargo ship for the American army during WWII is now home to an incredible diversity of marine life. 

The USAT Liberty Shipwreck in Tulamben is one of Bali’s most iconic snorkeling destinations, offering a unique opportunity to explore a historic underwater site teeming with marine life. This World War II shipwreck has become a vibrant marine habitat where snorkelers can witness a remarkable blend of history and natural beauty.

The shipwreck’s structure has been colonized by colorful coral and is home to a rich variety of marine species. Snorkelers can spot sweetlips hovering near the wreck, garden eels swaying from the sandy bottom, and turtles gliding gracefully among the corals. The site also features the sleek movements of needlefish and trumpetfish, and those looking closely might spot a camouflaged octopus nestled within the nooks of the wreck. Barracudas occasionally make an appearance, adding excitement to the underwater experience.

The clear waters and diverse marine life make the USAT Liberty Shipwreck an ideal spot for snorkelers seeking a unique and memorable snorkeling adventure in Bali.

How we run our Tulamben snorkeling day trip:

We will pick you up from your hotel at the appointed time and take you to the All 4 Diving Dive Center in Sanur so you can try your snorkel equipment. Preferably, you visit our dive shop 1 day prior to your trip day to try your equipment. 

Tulamben is about 2-hours drive from Sanur. The bus will depart at 8:00 AM from our dive centre. Divers and snorkelers will visit the same site each time. 

Our driver will take you back to your hotel at the end of your dive trip. 

Hotel pick-up times:

    • Canggu/Ubud area  6:30 – 6:45 AM
    • Uluwatu/Jimbaran area  6:45 – 7:00 AM
    • Kuta/Nusa Dua/Seminyak/Kerobokan area  7:00 AM
    • Sanur area  7:30 – 7:45 AM

Additional Charge to Kerobokan, Canggu, Uluwatu, Jimbaran and Ubud areas 600.000

Inclusions:

  • Transfers to/from hotels (additional charge to Ubud, Canggu, Uluwatu, Jimbaran and Kerobokan areas 600.000 IDR)

  • We encourage the use of our water refill station and staying hydrated throughout the day.
  • While not included, Reef Safe sunscreen lotion is available for purchase should you wish to have your own.
  • Practice responsible snorkeling by avoiding touching or disturbing marine life and corals. Follow the guidelines provided by your guide.
