1. Exploration and Adventure:
Unlike the Open Water course, the Advanced Open Water Diver course does not focus on training you to be a better diver in mastering basic skills. Instead, it’s about introducing you to different diving specialities and allowing you to experience various underwater environments.

2. Diving Specialties:
During the Advanced Open Water course, you’ll complete five adventure dives, which are focused on different diving specialities. Two of these specialty dives are mandatory: Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation. The remaining three dives are your choice:

• Peak Performance Buoyancy: Improve your buoyancy control and fine-tune your hovering skills, making your dives more enjoyable and environmentally friendly.
• Wreck Diving: Explore sunken shipwrecks and learn about the techniques and safety procedures involved in wreck diving.
• Night Diving: Discover the underwater world at night, witnessing different marine behaviour and species that are active during darkness.
• Drift Diving: Master the skills needed for diving in currents and learn how to navigate while being carried by the water.
• Boat Diving: Boat Diving familiarizes you with the procedures and techniques specific to diving from boats. 
• Fish Identification: You’ll learn about common fish families, their characteristics, and how to recognize distinct features. This dive enhances your underwater experience by allowing you to better appreciate the marine.
• Search and Recovery Dive: Teaches you techniques for locating and retrieving lost items underwater. You’ll learn how to use search patterns, tie knots, and handle equipment for object recovery.
• Enriched Air Nitrox Dive (NITROX / EANx): This Dive introduces you to diving with enriched air, also known as nitrox. Nitrox has a higher oxygen content than regular air. You’ll learn about the benefits and considerations of diving with nitrox. This dive can open the door to longer bottom times and quicker surface intervals.

3. Practical Experience:
Each adventure dive is led by a PADI instructor who will guide you through the specific skills and techniques related to that dive specialty. You’ll apply what you’ve learned in real dive scenarios, gaining hands-on experience under the instructor’s guidance.

4. Certification:
Upon completing the five adventure dives, you’ll earn the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This certification acknowledges your participation in different types of dives and demonstrates your commitment to advancing your diving skills.

The Advanced Open Water Diver course typically spans two to three days. To enrol, you need to have a PADI Open Water Diver certification or an equivalent certification from another recognized agency. Being in good health and having a reasonable level of fitness is also recommended.
