The Best Time to Dive in Bali
When Is the Best Time of the Year to Go Scuba Diving in Bali?
April through November is prime time for scuba divers.
After the rainy season ends, Bali’s warm, clear waters become ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling. You’ll be in the thick of the best diving from April through November. Cool, dry air regularly blows across the island throughout these months, making for glassy waters and cloudless skies, ideal conditions for scuba divers.
April–June: Calm Before the Storm
By April, the ocean’s currents had slowed to where divers of all experience levels could safely explore Bali’s scuba spots. Water temperatures hover about 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit), making it ideal for marine life. This time of year is perfect for seeing reef sharks, manta rays, and many other species of exotic fish.
Manta rays are in full swing from July through September.
These are the months to go for it if you’ve always wanted to swim with beautiful manta rays. Nusa Penida’s nutrient-rich waters are a magnet for these magnificent species, making for a once-in-a-lifetime scuba diving adventure. The elusive sunfish, also known as a Mola Mola, can sometimes be spotted during these months, making them ideal for underwater photographers and marine lovers.
Discover the Shipwrecks in October and November
Even though the diving season is going down, October and November are still fantastic months to go underwater. As long as the weather permits, now are the perfect time to dive into Bali’s fascinating shipwrecks. The USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben, and the Japanese patrol boat wreck near Amed are must-sees for divers.
Exploration During the Rainy Season (December – March)
Even if the island experiences rain throughout the rainy season, that doesn’t mean you can’t go scuba diving. Amed and Tulamben on the island’s northeast shore remain dry even in wetter seasons, making them ideal diving destinations. Dive in peace and solitude during this off-season when marine life may exhibit unusual behaviour and there are fewer tourists.
Bali’s underwater world provides a unique adventure at any time of the year. Each month offers new experiences for scuba divers, whether searching for manta rays, exploring shipwrecks, or discovering exotic underwater species. Don’t forget to factor in the seasonal differences when planning your dive trip, and be ready to create some lifelong memories in Bali’s underwater world.
